It is 4 weeks today since mum passed away, at home. Home was so important to her: it was the same home that she and dad had moved to in 1966 - young, excited to be making a home together; it was where they raised their children, and then welcomed their grandchildren with loving arms; where they welcomed friends and family over the years; where they planned to grow old together - a wish that was devastated by dad’s untimely death aged 69; it was where mum picked herself up, and made a strong resolution to live her life fully, with the strong support of her wonderful friends, building and enjoying a vibrant social life; it was where she determined to stay, to live out her final years, with kind and thoughtful neighbours who looked out for her, particularly over this last torrid year, as she had for them and those who came ‘to the road’ before them; mum’s home was where she belonged, where she drew comfort and contentment, and where she lived out her days. With many thanks and deepest gratitude to everyone who has shared their thoughts, tributes, memories and photos on here, and for your generous donations to Alzheimer’s Society, in support of their work. Sincerely hope to be able to see you all in person in the Summer, where we can say a final goodbye to Marion, together. Sue xx
